21、Like the post-90s generation in China, today’s teenagers in the UK have a problem with how they’re represented. Most of them feel unfairly represented by the media and their lives are negatively (负面地) influenced, says a recent survey.
The survey was carried out by the UK Demos, in which more than 1000 14-17-year-old teens from England and Northern Ireland took part.
The survey report shows that four-fifths of teens (81%) felt there was a false image of young people in the media and wider society. Most of them (85%) said that it is hurting both their self-esteem(自尊) and chance of getting a job.
By researching six UK newspapers over the past 10 years, Demos found that words most commonly connected with “teenagers” and “young people” were “binge-drinking”, “yobs” and “crime”.
“The young people out there are doing good things for the community, but there are always bad things on the news. But we’re not all like that, it’s only a few,” said Becky Brunskill, 18, member of Youth Parliament for Liverpool.
The survey also found that 80% of UK teenagers believed they cared more about social issues than the older generation. This was a view shared by their teachers, 66% of whom agreed in a separate Demos survey of 500 teachers.
The UK youth are also eager to make a difference. But rather than traditional politics, 87% of the teens believed social media was a good way to change society.
Jonathan Birdwell, author of the Demos report, said “They could be the most active citizens we have seen in a generation.”
【1】What problems are current UK teenagers troubled with according to Demos?
A. Their bad school image.
B. The media’s negative image of them.
C. Their false social relationships.
D. The difficulty of getting jobs.
【2】 How many people think that the false image is hurting their self-esteem?
A. 800 B. 810 C. 850 D. 1000
【3】We can guess the underlined words “binge-drinking” and “yobs” are about .
A. something bad B. something good
C. students D. adults
【4】 What can we tell from the passage?
A. Few young British people are doing good things for the community.
B. British teenagers care more about their parents than social issues.
C. Young Britons are inactive in trying to prove themselves.
D. Young Britons believe social media is a good way to change society.
22、 I sometimes find that watching a film adaptation (改编作品) of a book helps me to understand the story of a book. This is especially true for books from a different period or with a difficult dialect. My favourite example of these is Pride and Prejudice, which is also my favourite book.
Film and TV adaptations of books also mean that books reach a wider audience, prompting (促使) people to read the book if they really liked the film. In terms of language learning, watching film or TV adaptations of books can help to provide an understanding of a story that may have otherwise (否则) been difficult to understand. They also help to give a story a more modern twist (转折),for example Oliver! As an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. The language in the book can be enough to reduce a native speaker to tears, but the adaptation allows everyone to enjoy the story of the child Oliver. Similarly, the 1996 film Romeo and Juliet,an adaptation of the Shakespeare play of the same name, enables those of us who haven’t studied Shakespeare to still enjoy his play.
Of course, there are limitations and not every story that is translated onto the screen is liked by the many fans of the book,or even the author. For example, the author of the book Mary Poppins, P.L.Travers,hated Disney’s adaptation, but it is now a well-loved work. One of my least favourite adaptations is that of Still Alice by Lisa Genova. They changed the location from Boston to New York for no real reason, which for some readers changes the whole feel of the book.
In my opinion, adaptations are a great way to introduce people to the story and characters of a book before reading it.They’re also a good way for people who may not feel confident enough to read a whole novel in a different language, but still want to enjoy a specific story.
【1】The film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice helps the author .
A.develop an interest in the book
B.understand the story of the book
C.learn history of a different period
D.understand the dialect in the book
【2】How does the author mainly support his ideas?

A.The film Still Alice.
B.The book Still Alice.
C.The film Mary Poppins.
D.The book Mary Poppins.

A.He pays little attention to it.

C.He is in support of it.
D.He is against it.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、和 D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
Picking a university is a tense period of asking yourself which institution is most relevant. That's why university rankings play such a vital role in students searching for their next academic direction. Rankings are also an inescapable part of the reputation and brand image of universities. "No university website is complete without the claim to be in the top 100 for something or other," reported the BBC. The reason is simple: Rankings help them to attract students, staff and research investment.
Currently there are numbers of university rankings, and each has its own list of standards. But the main standards are the same: academic reputation, graduates' performance and faculty(教师) resources.
However, experts point out the ranking process isn't entirely reliable. Mark Kantrowitz, a US financial aid researcher, said university rankings were mostly just for show. He wrote in The New York Times. “It may give your parents better bragging(炫耀) rights, but that's about it.”
Moreover, it's not difficult to see the limitations of university rankings. Many rankings focus on the number of times research work is cited (引用) by other researchers. It helps British and US universities to dominate (支配) global rankings because English is the favored language of academia, John O'Leary, a member of the QS academic advisory board, told The Guardian.
Also, rankings such as QS mainly focus on the qualities of the university rather than its students. “Any university ranking is likely to help students make better decisions about where to study, but the need to balance them with other more human factors is also important,” said Phil Moss, an education and admissions consultant.“Advice from graduates or current students can be as valuable in providing a genuine insight(洞察) into the experience or quality of a particular degree program. It can also add an element that rankings can never convey---the actual emotion of a university experience.”
【1】Why do universities consider rankings important?
A. Rankings make them more appealing.
B. Rankings are students' only reference.
C. Rankings can increase their academic level.
D. Rankings help them complete their websites.
【2】What does the underlined "It" in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Academic research work.
B. The number of researches.
C. The way of ranking universities.
D. The limitation of university ranking.
【3】According to John O'Leary, what helps British and US universities rank well?
A. The wide use of English in academia.
B. Their outstanding qualities.
C. Their graduates' excellent performance.
D. The academia's favor to them.
【4】Besides ranking, what does Phil Moss suggest you should refer to if you're picking a university?
A. Investment in education.
B. Guidance from professors.
C. Information on websites.
D. Suggestions from students.

26、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Talent Night was approaching and my classmates were busy preparing for it. Kate was good at paper-cutting, and Tommy could create breath-taking beats on drums. Among others are dancers, gymnasts, bakers, singers and artists. However, when my teacher asked me what to do, I just reminded her that I had no talents. “Nonsense, Benjamin,” she said, “You’ll think of something.”
“I’ll just ask for a sick leave on that day,” I announced to my friends one afternoon. “Benjamin, be serious!” Kate rolled her eyes and said, “you must have a talent.” Then they helped me make a list of what I was good at, but I was still confused about what I could do on Talent Night. I sighed, lowering my head. “Cheer up, Benjamin! I still remember your last birthday party, which was so well arranged that we enjoyed ourselves!” said Kate. “Yeah,” agreed Tommy, “and you always get us together to do things like the glue (胶水) that holds us together. Without you, we couldn’t have done anything fun.”
Their comments got me thinking. “You must do something for the talent show,” a voice rang in my ears. Lying in bed that night, I came up with a plan so exciting that it took me two hours to fall asleep. The next morning, I couldn’t wait to tell my teacher about it. “That’s a wonderful idea, Benjamin,” she said, “original and true to who you are.”
In the next few weeks, I asked my friends to join in with me. I wrote countless lists, making sure every item got checked off. We bought lanterns and decorated the stage together. “The stage has been completely transformed and looks magical,” my teacher whispered to me.
On the night of the big event, everything was ready. All of us were eager to display their talents on the stage, but I still felt a little nervous.
