二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Perhaps there is no sport in the world more connected to sneakers than basketball. Many NBA players wear them to send important messages and showcase their personalities on court.

And now, thanks to a new policy, the NBA will strengthen its status as the most stylish sports league in the world. When the 2018-2019 NBA season kicked off in October, the NBA lifted its color restrictions on players’ sneakers. It is the first time in the league’s 72-year history that it has allowed shoes to be of any color a player likes, as long as no reflective (反光的) material is included.

In the past, the NBA required “uniformity (一致性) of uniform”, meaning each players’ shoes had to match those worn by the rest of the team. Their sneakers had to be at least 51 percent black or white, with an element of team color.

This landmark rule change is part of the NBA’s collective effort to support players “statements” on and off the court. “ More and more people realize that limitation of the color of players’ shoes actually constrains (限制) their personal expression and storytelling,” CNN News noted.

Sometimes a shoe was worn in a memorable game, or the design of a shoe has meaning for the player.

Before Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, nicknamed “the Black Mamba”, retired, it was said that he wore a new pair of sneakers to each game and stored his used sneakers.

Bryant brought the low-top style of sneaker with a Mamba print to the forefront in 2008 to symbolize the spirit of perseverance and bravery. In 2013, Bryant added nine red stitches (缝针) to the back of his shoe to represent the nine stitches from his Achilles tendon surgery. “It has become an attitude. That is my Mamba personality,” Bryant told Sports Illustrated magazine.

Kyrie Irving of the Boston, Celtics wears probably the most famous signature sneakers. Inspired by his mother, who died when he was four, he has a rose on one side of his shoe to represent her. All of his sneakers are also inscribed () with the words, “JBY (Just Be You)”. “Just Be You is the motto I live by every single day, because I’m happy to be an individual. It’s a beautiful thing,” Irving told UK media site GiveMeSport.

There is no end to the stories about sneakers in basketball. It’s certain that they will remain a platform for players who want to use them to express their ideas and personalities.

1According to the new policy, the NBA players ________.

A.may choose sneakers they like without restriction

B.should wear sneakers in their own team color

C.have to choose sneakers either in black or in white

D.have more freedom in choosing personal sneakers

2What can we infer from Paragraph 4?

    A.Uniformity guarantees better results.

B.The new rule leads to controversy.

C.The NBA cares little about players’ statements.

    D.Players’ personal expression also counts.

3Which of the following is used to express family value?

    A.A rose. B.JBY.

C.A Mamba print. D.Nine red stitches.

4What’s the best title of the passage?

    A.The NBA lifts color restrictions.

    B.Our shoes have stories.

C.Bryant has a unique dress style.

D.The NBA players are particular about the colors of their sneakers.

  • 22、If you were to throw, say, a banana peel out of your car while driving along the motorway, that would be a completely harmless action, due to the fact that it’s part of a fruit — right? Actually, no. A banana peel can take up to two years to be naturally processed, and with a third of motorists admitting to littering while driving, that’s a whole lot of discarded banana peels. An orange peel and a cigarette butt’s biodegrading (生物降解) term is similar to that of a banana peel, but tin cans last up to 100 years and plastic bottles last forever, as do glass bottles.

Despite the fact that longer-lasting materials will serve to damage the environment and its animals for a longer time, we can’t merely measure the severity of a certain type of rubbish by its lifetime. For example, despite having a fairly short length of biodegrading time, more than 120 tons of cigarette-related litter is discarded in the UK every day.

It’s not a cheap habit either: to keep our streets clean annually costs UK taxpayers £500 million, and when you include our green spaces, that goes up to £1 billion. So, it’s not surprising that if caught fly-tipping (乱倒垃圾) you will face a £20,000 fine or even jail time and, if you dispose of something dangerous, the court will give you five years to serve. Regardless of how severe these punishments might seem, however, among the reported cases only 2,000 were found guilty out of 825,000, so we still have some way to go in making sure people obey the rules.

【1】What does the underlined word “discarded” in Para. 1 mean?

    A.Harmless.

    B.Processed.

    C.Thrown.

    D.Long-lasting.

【2】Which of the following has the longest biodegrading term?

    A.Tin cans.

    B.Glass bottles.

    C.Cigarette butts.

    D.Banana peels.

【3】What can be learned from the last paragraph?

A.Fly-tipping will only cost people some money.

B.It’s not so hard to make sure people obey the rules.

C.A large number of people were found guilty of illegally littering.

D.Every year UK taxpayers spend huge amounts of money to keep the streets from dirt.

【4】What is the purpose of the passage?

A.To call for people not to litter illegally.

B.To stress the importance of good behavior.

C.To encourage people to use fewer plastic bags.

D.To inform readers of different biodegrading terms.

  • 23、The Yellow River is the cradle of China’s civilization. And flood control and prevention have always been key to the well-being of the people living along it. Now, scientists can better work on these issues by giving the river a digital twin.

The digital twin of the Yellow River uses various technologies, including big data, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things. Devices (设备) set up along the river collect and transmit information to the center. Based on the information, a 3D model of the river is presented on the computer screen. It’s like the Yellow River has a twin that reflects its real conditions.

One big breakthrough in the river’s digital governance (治理) is “smart stones”. According to Wang Qin, a lead researcher at the Information Center of Yellow River Henan Bureau, a smart stone is a water-proof stone-shaped device with chips, a battery, and a signal transmitter. They are buried in important dike (堤坝) locations to record and report the movement of dike stones. “Upon feeling movement of the dike stones, the smart stone sends an alarm to the center for quick response,” Wang said.

“In the past, researchers had to learn the conditions of the dike on the spot by themselves, putting their lives at risk,” said Zhao Xiao from the bureau. “Now the smart stones can do this for us, more safely, quickly, and accurately.”

And in the sky, drones (无人机) are flying. On the routes designed by engineers, the drones become expert patrollers (巡逻员) of the river, looking at its dikes and flood prevention projects. According to Shen Lin from the Yellow River Conservancy Commission, thanks to the drones, researchers at the command center can get first-hand photos and information. “Researchers then update the 3D model according to the changes the drones reported. The newly updated model helps us test our floodwater release plans in case we ever need to batten down the hatches (未雨绸缪), ”said Shen.

Under the water and up in the sky, intelligence systems are helping to protect the Yellow River Basin on all fronts. According to the Ministry of Water Resources, in the future, we can expect to see the construction of an even more comprehensive digital system for this important river.

【1】What is the main purpose of creating a digital twin of the Yellow River?

    A.To conduct historical research.

B.To create a virtual tourist attraction.

C.To raise public awareness of river protection.

D.To improve flood control and prevention efforts.

【2】How do the smart stones contribute to the river’s digital governance?

    A.They record water quality.

    B.They improve the river’s beauty.

C.They monitor and report dike movements.

D.They serve as markers for important locations.

【3】What is one of the functions of drones in the digital governance of the Yellow River?

    A.Entertaining tourists.

    B.Collecting information on dike conditions.

    C.Patrolling and take wildlife photos.

    D.Testing water quality.

【4】What does the under lined word “comprehensive” in the last paragraph probably mean?

    A.Complete.

    B.Basic.

    C.Beautiful.

    D.Natural.

  • 24、Many older people around the world have at least one common concern: How to get younger people, hooked on their electronic devices, interested in classic art. Take the Monkey King, or Sun Wukong, as an example. The main character in the 16th-century classic novel, Journey to the West, is a romantic figure of bravery and adventure that charmed millions of readers before the appearance of online attractions.

Havoc in Heaven, a new Peking Opera film, attracted the wider public to the glamor of the traditional Chinese performance art, featuring one of the best-known chapters from Journey to the West. This film, expected to create a new channel to promote Peking Opera, includes nearly all the key ingredients of Peking Opera. It covers all the basic techniques, more than 10 classic tunes, and makeup for dozens of facial representations of different figures’ characteristics.

It’s actually a big challenge to combine Peking Opera and film, each of which has its own rhythm, according to Cheng Lu, director of the film, who is adopting a fresh approach to present the traditional art form. One challenge that Cheng and his production team faced is how to balance the new approach with maintaining the fundamentals of the art. The basic principles and performance skills in Peking Opera cannot be changed. For example, performances in Peking Opera often emphasize symbolism over the accurate representation of motion. There are never real horses on stage, and the film reflects that. And when Sun Wukong eats peaches, he merely copies the action of eating without taking a bite.

Some background images on stage, such as a painted waterfall, remain, and a live band was on the set to provide sound for the film, rather than employing the pre-recorded music. “If we change traditions to cater to people’s taste and preference for a regular film, it will no longer be a Peking Opera piece of art,” Cheng said.

On the other hand, some creativity was needed because Cheng and his team did not just want to document a stage performance. Computer technology is also applied to achieve some visual effects and to present impossible scenes, such as explosions or the heavenly court floating in the clouds. Also, the filming process leaves no room for actors to make the slightest mistake in front of cameras, such as those that would probably go unnoticed in an opera house.

Peking Opera films played a powerful role in the 1960s and 70s, but their popularity gave way to more diverse entertainment. In recent years, there has been a recovery in the popularity of Peking Opera films. However, the overuse of special effects in many film adaptations of Peking Opera plays has weakened the original charm of the stage performances. The imagination (enabled by the stage) can never be sacrificed for a film’s expression.

【1】What is the purpose of the first paragraph?

A.To blame young people addicted to electronic devices.

B.To advertise a new Peking Opera film, Havoc in Heaven.

C.To express older people’s concern about the young generation.

D.To arouse readers’ interest in traditional Chinese performance art.

【2】What did Director Cheng do while producing the film?

A.He made changes to basic performance skills.

B.He made use of symbols and motions equally.

C.He insisted on a band playing music on the scene.

D.He brought onto the stage exact details of real life.

【3】What innovation did Cheng’s team make?

A.They opposed a rigid recording of the performance.

B.They enriched visual effects with modern technology.

C.They allowed actors to repeat actions before the camera.

D.They adopted real explosion scenes during the shooting.

【4】What can we conclude from the last paragraph?

A.Imagination is a unique charm of Peking Opera films.

B.Technology makes up for the loss of stage imagination.

C.There is some possibility for a film to replace Peking Opera.

D.The original charm of Peking Opera cannot be sacrificed for films.
