Helpful ways to deal with a know-it-all friend
Sometimes having a friend who thinks she knows everything and always offers her unsolicited (主动提供的) advice can really make one upset. But with some ways to deal with know-it-all, you can easily cope with that friend. Also a know-it-all friend often acts as if she were the best. 【1】
【2】. There may be a reason why your know-it-all friend does so. Maybe she has low self-esteem (自尊), or she’s not happy in her life. Try to understand her and understand why she acts the way that she does This tip is very important, especially if the know-it-all is your best friend.
Give her a little attention. Giving a little attention is one of the best ways to deal with a know-it-all friend. Show some enthusiasm about what the know-it-all says to give her enough attention. 【3】 Or this can lead to her giving more unsolicited advice.
Don’t take her comments personally. 【4】 Instead of thinking that something is not okay with you, never fake her comments and advice personally. If you do so, you may really begin to become unnecessarily anxious.
Have a talk with her. If you’re sick and tired of all those unsolicited advice, come right out with it. Speak politely and don’t insult her. Try to find a good time to talk to her. 【5】 Tell your know-it-all friend how it makes you feel and maybe she will respond well.

22、The 2022 World Cup has come to an end. Let’s review some facts about the hi-tech turf (草皮) that Qatar had spent much of its energy on.
Qatar, a desert nation, had three main challenges: water, air and light. It got almost every condition going against it. The water used to irrigate (灌溉) the grass is low quality, mainly treated seawater. Because of the desert sun, Qatar’s stadiums were built for maximum shade—great for preventing heatstroke, but less ideal for photosynthesis (光合作用). Inside the nearly-closed stadiums, there’s very little air movement.
Qatar identified pitch (球场) quality as a particular issue and set up the Aspire Sport Turf Research and Development Centre to find the best types of grass for use in the harsh climate, testing 24 different varieties. Eventually, Atlas Turf’s grass was chosen as much for its appearance as its tolerance for the tough conditions Qatar faces.
The following pictures show some tech facts about the turf, which ensures a consistent and durable surface for the players in all weather conditions.
【1】What information can we learn from the passage?
① the conditions against grass growing in Qatar
② the material the stadiums were built with
③ the supplier of the turf grass
④ the efforts Qatar made to select the most suitable grass
⑤ the technology involved in making the turf
⑥ the tough challenges facing the football players
A.①③④⑤
B.①③⑤⑥
C.②③④⑤
D.②④⑤⑥
【2】Atlas Turf’s grass is chosen probably because _____________.
A.it has very little air movement
B.it becomes rough in windy weather
C.it is shade-tolerant
D.it appears to have a golden color
【3】Which of the following is TRUE about the turf?
A.24 types of grass have been planted on the turf.
B.Damage to the turf can be recovered quickly.
C.Artificial grass covers 70 percent of the turf.
D.Water can be saved at the bottom of the turf.
23、 SpaceX launched its straight out-of-science fiction Starship several miles into the air from a remote corner of Texas on Wednesday, but the test flight ended in a fireball at touchdown.
The rocketship—50 meters tall and 9 meters wide—soared out over the Gulf of Mexico. After about five minutes, it reached an altitude of 12.5 kilometers. That's almost 100 times higher than the previous test flights. Then it turned sideways as planned and came back to Earth near the Mexican border. When it touched down, however, the rocketship exploded.
The entire flight lasted six minutes and 42 seconds. SpaceX broadcast it live on its website. Despite the crash, Musk, the owner of SpaceX, called it a “success” and tweeted, “Mars, here we come!”
SpaceX said that the rocket was precisely guided to the landing point. The fuel tank pressure was low, however, when the engines were successfully restarted for touchdown, which caused Starship to come down a little bit too fast.
Starship is actually the upper stage of Musk's moon-and Mars-ships. It will be carried on the top of a bigger rocket, known as Super Heavy, which is still in development. The entire vehicle will tower 120 meters—9.4 meters taller than NASA's Saturn V rocket that carried men to the moon almost three decades ago. SpaceX intends to use Starship to put massive satellites into orbit around Earth, besides delivering people and cargo to the moon by 2024 and Mars in 2026.
While accepting an award in Berlin last week, Musk said he's highly confident of a human flight to Mars in six years—“if we get lucky, maybe four years”. But Musk admitted for the first time after the test failure that his timelines could be too optimistic.
【1】How long did the entire flight last?
A.For less than 300 seconds.
B.For 402 seconds.
C.For more than 402 seconds.
D.For 300 seconds.
【2】We can conclude from paragraph 4 that Starship .
A.did not find the landing point
B.was filled with too much fuel
C.failed to reach the necessary landing speed
D.could not restart the engines for touchdown
【3】Which is most unlikely to happen?
A.SpaceX will send people to the moon as planned.
B.Starship will be used to put satellites into orbit.
C.SpaceX will continue its future journey to Mars.
D.Starship will be carried on the top of Super Heavy.
【4】What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Musk Is Pessimistic About His Mars Program
B.Musk Admits the Failure of His Mars Timelines
C.SpaceX Completes a Successful Starship Flight
D.SpaceX Launches Starship on Highest Test Flight
24、 When you hear the name Leonardo da Vinci, what comes to mind? Maybe his paintings, Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Maybe it's his flying machine invention. When I think of this great man, I think of the term “Renaissance Man”. Why? The term “Renaissance Man” comes from fifteenth-century Italy and refers to the idea of a person with knowledge and skills in a number of different areas. Perhaps, no single individual defines the idea of a Renaissance man better than Leonardo da Vinci-an artist, scientist, architect, engineer and inventor.
Leonardo da Vinci will most likely go down in history for his famous works as an artist. But,did you know that he spent a significant amount of time working on his endeavors in science and technology? Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most productive inventors in history. Some of his most famous inventions are the flying machine, the parachute and the revolving bridge. Leonardo has also been given credit by historians for many more inventions.
Once in the courtyard of Senor Ludovico, Leonardo da Vinci constantly invented various “labour-saving devices” for use in the kitchen. At the same time, he began to keep notebooks. The funny thing was that most of the drawings found there, which for several hundred years were considered by researchers to be mechanisms for military (军事) operations, in fact, turned out to be quite peaceful meat grinders, dishwashers, mechanical devices for cracking nuts. The restless Leonardo invented the manual garlic press, which has remained virtually unchanged to our day, a foot-operated napkin dryer, an egg cutter, and many other useful things.
But his most important discovery is the invention of spaghetti. Of course, pasta (意大利面食) has existed in Italy since ancient time. But it was a hard and very broad substance, like a heavy lump of lasagna (面块). Leonardo changed the shape of the pasta, making a machine that cut it into long thin strips, which after boiling turned into spaghetti.
【1】Leonardo da Vinci is mentioned as “Renaissance Man” for his _

【3】In what way did Leonardo da Vinci change pasta?
A.Taste.
B.Color.
C.Fragrance.
D.Shape.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Young kids, especially boys, love to jump things. As I grew, a mechanical tool was added to my ever growing love of jumping — the bike. We built different ramps (坡道) to build up speed before being launched air for free-flying fun. With all the ramps we created, nothing could have prepared any of us for “The Monster”.
One morning, I headed out to my friend’s home. Just the night before I had the back tire of my bike broken. Luckily, I had a backup in my sister’s smaller, lighter bike “Pinky” because she didn’t ride as much.
On the way, I heard my name yelled out. It was Nick, together with Keith and Josh. “Check it out man,” Nick said as I rolled to a stop at the end of his driveway. He gestured with his head and I cast my look over his shoulder only to find my eyes resting on the largest ramp the little town had ever seen. It was made of cinder (煤渣) blocks that Nick’s dad had stored under a tarp (防水油布) to repair the garage. On it was a sheet of wood providing the ramp part of the jump. What a perfect ramp!
“Has anyone taken the jump?” I asked. Everyone kept silent. “Why build it then?” I asked. “I don’t know,” Nick shrugged. “I’ll do it,” suddenly I said. The words were out and the only way to save face was to make it. “If I do this I will do it right,” I said, pretending to study the Monster. Keith sensed the nervousness within me. “Be fine, just don’t mess it up.”
I made my way up to a steep hill to get more speed. Holding my nerve, I kicked off and charged forward with all the strength my legs had to offer. My concentration was like a rock, focused on the task at hand. The wind was rushing in my ears as I stared down the Monster and made my final approach.
