22、Twelve prized camels have been disqualified from a beauty contest in Saudi Arabia after their owners tried to beautify their looks with Botox(肉毒杆菌素).
Thousands of camels are paraded at the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival to be judged on their shapely lips and humps. The festival, which also features camel racing and camel milk tasting, has combined prize money of $57 million.
This year’s event has been stuck in scandal after the 20 million Saudi riyals (里亚尔,货币单位) in prize money for each category tempted some owners to cheat.
The key features in camel beauty are considered to be delicate ears and a big nose. Judges are also looking for perfectly placed humps, muscular physiques and leathery mouths. But there are strict rules against the use of drugs in the lips, or shaved or clipped body parts.
Ali Al Mazrouei, the son of a top Emirati breeder, said Botox was used for the lips, the nose and even the jaw. “It makes the head more inflated, so when the camel comes, it’s like ‘Oh look at how big that head is. It has big lips, a big nose’,” he said.
In the lead up to the festival, Saudi media reported that a vet had been caught giving camels plastic surgery including Botox injections and reducing the size of their ears.
Chief judge Fawzan Al-Madi said the camel was “a symbol of Saudi Arabia”. “We used to preserve it out of necessity; now we preserve it as a pastime,” he said. The camel beauty contest was first held in 2000 and last year was relocated from a remote desert area to a permanent venue north of the capital, Riyadh.

23、 Nowadays, money has become intangible (不易度量的). Household shopping is done online pocket money is stored in an electronic wallet rather than a piggy bank. Children rarely see their parents handling cash and they are spending online, too.【1】
The answer is GoHenry, an app with separate versions for parents and children, now available both in America and Britain.【2】To use the app, parents need to sign up with their own bank accounts and pay a monthly fee for their kids. They can see what the child has bought and choose where the card can be used: in shops, online or at ATMs. They can also schedule pocket money and set tasks.【3】
Children get debit cards (借记卡) carved with their name.【4】For example, they can decide to save ten dollars for a friend's birthday in four weeks' time. The app tells them how much to save each week to meet the goal.
Similar to a fitness app, GoHenry gives children feedback on their financial management and motivates them to spend better and save. A big benefit of such an app is that it inspires family conversations about money.
GoHenry has gained popularity since it entered the market. Parents sign up for different purposes. Some regard the subscription as an investment in their children’s future.【5】Others uses it as a way for their children to learn to budget.

24、 Corn has been a significant part in American food since before European arrival. After the Civil War, grits (粗玉米粉), which is made out of corn, became a diet mainstay (支柱) because water-powered mills (磨坊) worked to grind dried corn. They were relatively inexpensive and could be eaten with almost anything, making it possible for everyone to enjoy.
Grits are usually cooked with water, cream and butter over the course of many hours. There can be varying types of grits from smooth to grainy. There are even instant grits for those without the hours to cook. Worth noting is that sugar is not typically added.
Grits can be served for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but they're commonly used as a base, usually topped with seafood and a delicious sauce. It's a dish eaten by everyone from sitting presidents to blue collar workers in a variety of ways, both in fine dining restaurants and oily spoons.
Shrimp and grits is the most well-known dish incorporating grits, especially in coastal areas like Charleston, South Carolina. It was originally a fisherman’s breakfast, a hearty meal before a long day of work, and today, it's found on menus throughout the nation.
Chefs have also become creative with the dish, adding modern elements to the traditional. Mashama Bailey has a foie gras (鹅肝酱) and grits dish at The Grey in Savannah, Georgia. Edward Lee has prepared it like the porridge his Korean parents cooked during his growing up, but uses Kentucky's Wiesenberger grits. Nathalie Dupree has made her career on the dish with her cookbook titled “Shrimp and Grits," while Virginia Willis has the appropriately titled “Grits”.
