二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Deep in the wilderness of northern Kenya, two boys found a pair of crying cheetah cubs (猎豹幼崽). The cubs' mother had been killed by a lion. The cheetahs were only a few weeks old. In the wild, about 9 out of 10 cheetah cubs die before they are three months old. They are food for lions. But these cubs were so lucky that they were saved by their "heroes", who brought them to Jane and Ian Craig. The Craigs help save endangered animals at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

The Craigs nursed the cheetah cubs back to health feeding them with bottles, sleeping with them, and comforting them. They named the cubs Sambu and Toki. But what would become of these cubs? How would they survive on their own? In the wild, cubs stay with their mothers until they are almost 2 years old. During that time, cheetah mothers teach their young how to hunt and how to protect themselves. The Craigs wouldn't be able to find a cheetah mother to teach the cubs. So they turned to a man named Simon King.

King has spent more than twenty years studying cheetahs. He gave them a nod of approval when hearing about this, though taking care of two baby cubs would take a huge amount of time. For two years, he would need to have them at his side most of the time. But he felt there was no other choice. And so, when the brothers were one month old, King became their father.

The brothers followed King everywhere. If they saw large dangerous and fierce mammals, King would growl at the cubs the way a mother cheetah would have, which was a signal for the cubs to stay away. They learned quickly. King taught the cheetahs to hunt using a toy rabbit as King pulled it around on a rope. With more lessons and training, the brothers began to hunt on their own. King is one proud father now.

【1】What do we know about the two cheetah cubs?

A.They like the Craigs very much.

    B. Their lives were in danger in the wild.

    C. Their mother was killed by humans.

    D. They were not afraid of lions.

    2What worried the Craigs?

    A. There was no cheetah mother to teach the cubs.

    B. The cubs were dangerous.

    C. They had no time to take care of the cubs.

    D. There was no living place for the cubs.

3The cheetah brothers learnt hunting skills from ________.

    A. Simon King   B. the boys

    C. the Craigs       D. their mother

4In which part of a magazine would we expect to find this text?

  • 22、   There is a lot of controversy around whether or not teachers should be allowed to wear jeans, but I think jeans should be a part of the teacher dress code, and here is why.

Jeans say I’m dressed to work, not just for work.

It’s hard to sit down on the carpet and read a book with your kids while you’re wearing a skirt. I can’t lean over a desk to help a student in a classroom full of teenagers if I’m concerned about where my skirt ends up when I’m bent over. 1. I can work in jeans: I can move, sit, stand, or kneel without worry.

    2.

What’s the key to being an excellent teacher? Great relationships with your students. Dressed clothes say I’m your boss, but jeans say I’m with you. In my classroom, I am a facilitator, a coach and a mentor. 3.

Teachers who wear jeans are happier.

“Happy teacher,  happy class”  seems  like  a  good  saying. 4.  When  you’re comfortable, you’re happy. When you’re happy, you’re a better teacher. And when you’re a better teacher, your students learn more. Who isn’t happy when they’re wearing their favorite pair of comfy jeans?

    5.

Teachers today don’t just stand up in front and lecture anymore. Being comfortable means being able to move, to bend down to help students, or to sit on the floor to help a kid organize their backpack full of papers.

I work in a school where teachers wear jeans regularly, but we don’t look like a slovenly(不整洁的)group of people, nor are our students suffering because of our casual clothes. Most of the arguments against wearing jeans claim that if teachers want to be treated like professionals, they should look like  professionals, but  I’d  argue that  there is  no  longer a blanket look for professionals.

    A.Jeans solve these problems

    B.Wearing jeans helps build relationships

C.Teachers and students feel energetic wearing jeans

D.Jeans allow teachers to be more mobile and hands-on

E.Jeans help teachers do their jobs at the highest possible level

F.After all, the teacher’s mood usually sets the tone for the day

G.Jeans allow me to fill those roles more easily and comfortably

  • 23、Helping and supporting others may be key to living a longer and healthier life, according to a new research from the University of Bagel in Switzerland. The findings published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior, show that grandparents who care for their grandchildren enjoy longer lifespans. So do old people who care for others within their social networks.

Using data from the Berlin Aging Study, the researchers analyzed the longevity(寿命) and caregiving habits of more than 500 old people between the ages of 70 and 103. The study compared grandparents who acted as occasional caregivers with those who did not. It also compared these grandparents with old adults who did not have grandchildren but cared for people within their social networks.

Those grandparents who did not play the role of attending to grandchildren were more likely to have died within just five years of the testing period. While those old adults who provided, support to their family lived for an extra seven years on average and those provided support to their social networks lived for an extra four years on average.

Although the new study only focused on old adults, it's safe to assume that the health benefits of helping and taking care of others also reach those of all ages. However, it's important to note that too much caregiving often has just the opposite effect. There's a clear link between too much caregiving and a number of negative physical and mental health consequences.

【1】How many groups of old people are involved in the study?

    A.Two.

    B.Three.

    C.Four.

    D.Five.

    【2】What does the research show?

A.Old people are more likely to support others.

B.Grandparents live longer than childless old adults.

C.Supporting others prevents diseases of old patients.

D.Helping others properly has a good effect on health.

【3】What does the last paragraph imply?

A.Reducing earegiving can avoid bad health.

B.It's a good quality of all ages to be helpful.

C.Caregiving is not always beneficial to health.

D.Mental disorder is often caused by much caregiving.

  • 24、   The year 2019 was a year of teen power. Young people spoke up about big problems and adults began to listen. Greta Thunberg, the seventeen-year-old Swedish schoolgirl, was perhaps the most powerful example last year of this teen power. At the U.N. Climate Action Summit in September 2019, she told world leaders, “You are failing us young people” by not taking enough action against climate change. Greta gained worldwide attention for her impassioned (激昂的) speech and was named Time magazine's 2019 Person of the Year.

In the United States, teen groups have formed organizations to pressure politicians into changing gun laws to stop school shootings. “The adults know that we’re cleaning up their mess,” says Cameron Kasky, an 11th-grader who started the NeverAgain movement after surviving the deadliest high school shooting in American history in 2018. “It’s like they’re saying, ‘I’m sorry I made this mess’, while continuing to spill soda on the floor,” adds another survivor Emma González.

These problems are not new and politicians have been dealing with them for years. However, as with the most big problems, there are no easy solutions, and each solution may create more problems. Fighting climate change by reducing fossil fuels (化石燃料)-no more cars, airplanes or big industries-can have a negative effect on people’s lives and even increase poverty. And prisons would fill up quickly if we locked up every person who was considered to be a potential criminal.

Teen power is a good thing. However, it will take more than youthful passion to solve the world’s problems. If you are also ambitious to make the world a better place, it is important that you speak up when necessary. But just as important is the need to grow in our learning-to study and to always remain humble(谦卑的). Apart from enthusiasm for bringing about change, you still need the maturity, wisdom, knowledge and skills to make good decisions.

1Why does the author mention Greta Thunberg in paragraph 1?

A.To show the success of teen power.

B.To inform readers of 2019 Person of the Year.

C.To introduce the U. N. Climate Action Summit.

D.To encourage readers to speak up about big problems.

2What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 2 mean?

A.The adults like soda very much.

B.The adults fail to clean up their mess.

    C.The politicians haven't stopped making a mess.

D.The politicians have been working on the shooting.

3What is the author opinion about reducing fossil fuels?

A.It makes no difference to people's life.

B.It will bring about other new problems.

C.It will make the prisons fill up quickly.

D.It is effective in fighting climate change.

4What does the author want to stress in paragraph 4?

A.Teen power is a good thing to change the world.

B.Passion is important in solving the world's problems.

C.We should speak up to make the world a better place.

D.We need to study to be mature and wise to decide well.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、请阅读下面短文, 并按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的文章。

You may not have noticed it , but every time you are very hungry, you tend to get angry much more easily and for no reason. You are getting “hungry”, which is “the phenomenon whereby some people get short-tempered when they’re longing for a feed”, CNN noted.

According to Health, the lower blood sugar stops the brain from working properly. As a result, we may feel ineffective and angry.

What we eat will provide the nutrients for our bloodstream. Then they are given to our organs and tissues and used for energy.

But if we are hungry, the nutrients will drop rapidly. And if they drop enough, our brain will think that it is in a life-threatening situation and cannot focus on its job. So you will find it’s hard to work or study efficiently and keep a peaceful mind.

Scientists advise to “carry healthy snacks with you---like fruit, and yogurt---so that when you are hungry, they will hold you over until the next meal.”

    (写作内容)

    1、用30个单词概括上述短文内容。

    2、用120个左右单词来发表你的观点,内容包括:
