What will their mobile be able to do and what will look like? Nokia has collaborated with Industrial Design students from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London to come up with some ideas.
The Winner
Daniel Meyer
The device (装置) was inspired both by the appearing of video calling and the traditional practice of carrying pictures of family and friends with you. The handset is designed to sit as a picture frame (镜框) wherever the user is, serving the double purposes of communications device and a comforting familiar focus at home or when away.
Regenerate
Nicola Reed
It aims to get people to be more green. It collects infuriation on how much electricity and gas you use how you get about, the type of products you buy, and how you deal with waste. It works on a reward system and you can earn free calls and texts by being environmentally friendly, like walking to work instead of driving.
Hello
Sung-Joo Kim
People constantly upgrade mobiles and throw away their old ones. In the future new mobiles will have to exist alongside older modals that have become redundant (过剩的) in their primary role. This project proposes a change for them, using secondary functions like the camera. This model allows old phones to become part of a CCTV network.
Get Your Friend
Ik-Soo Shin
The aim was a user friendly product that gave an emotional relationship, like a fiend. A new generation of mobiles with artificial intelligence will be able to express a user’s feelings, such as anger. The phone will also automatically recognize the voice of the user, allowing communication between them and their mobiles.

27、What should we get for our kids this holiday? As children get older, giving them something they can experience instead of material things makes them happier, according to a new research led by Chaplin.
The research compared the level of happiness children get from material things with that from experiences. The results showed that children aged 3-12 get more happiness from material things than from experiences. However, older children get more happiness from experiences than from their possessions.
“It means experiences are highly preferred by adolescents, not just expensive material things, like some might think,”Chaplin says. She goes on to explain,”Don’t get me wrong. Young children do love experiences. And given this concept, theme parks such as Disneyland are being built everywhere. In fact, young children are excited throughout the experience. However, for experiences to provide lasting happiness, children must be able to recall details of the events.”
Long after they have unwrapped their Legos and stuffed animals, there will still be a physical reminder to give them happiness. However, young children can’t see or touch experiences after they are over, making it harder for them to appreciate experiences after a long time. There’s an easy fix, though, according to Chaplin.
“Take pictures or videos of family walks, playing in the snow, and birthday parties,”she said.“Children are likely to appreciate those experiences more if there is something to remind them of the event. Additionally, they’ll be able to learn the social value of shared experiences.”
Children will remember and appreciate not only the birthday gifts they received, but also the time spent with family and friends as they recall the experience through concrete reminders such as photos and videos.
Since memory is developed over time, it’s likely that children, especially young ones, may not get as much happiness from past experiences as from possessions. But with age, creating new memories and exploring new interests may be far more valuable than getting possessions.
【1】Why are theme parks springing up according to Chaplin?
A.They can offer children lasting happiness.
B.Events in them are centered on specific themes.

【4】What can be inferred from the passage?

B.Social values should be put in the first place.
C.New interests are most precious for children.
D.Material possessions bring more happiness to children.
28、How to Be Happy
【1】 Being happy often means continually finding satisfaction, a feeling of joy, and a sense that your life is meaningful during all kinds of problems—that does not depend upon finding ease or comfort. A sense of happiness is good for your health, so what can we do to have that?
Change your thoughts.
People have a natural tendency to remember negative experiences but forget positive ones. However, thanks to adaptability, you can actually change the way your brain functions. You can train yourself to be happier by seeking your kind of fun.【2】
Cultivate optimism.
【3】 It’s a way of interpreting everything that happens to you. For example, a pessimistic person might say, “I’m terrible at math. I’m going to fail that test tomorrow. I might as well just watch TV.” However, an optimistic person would say something like “I’m concerned about doing well on that test tomorrow, but I’m going to study as well as I can and do my best.” Optimism doesn’t deny the reality of challenges, but it interprets how you approach them differently.
Practice active gratitude.
A lot of researches confirm that gratitude is good for you. It reduces anxiety and depression, helps you become more positive, strengthens your relationships with others, and encourages compassion.【4】
Determine your core values.
Your core values determine how you think about yourself, your life, and the world around you. These beliefs guide your decision-making. They may be spiritual, or they may not, but they’re the things that are fundamental to how you look at life. Whatever your values are, research suggests that when you aren’t living your life and making choices that are not fit for your values, you’re likely to feel unhappy and dissatisfied.
【5】
Begin by imagining yourself in the future when you have gotten to where you want to be. Pick a few goals and imagine that you have achieved them.
A. For example, occupy your mind with positive thoughts by practicing mindfulness.
B. Happiness is not a simple goal, but is about making progress.
C. Contact a hotline.
D. It also has been shown to increase your feelings of happiness.
E. Visualize your “best possible self.”
F. Optimism is more than just positive expectations.
G. Look for the positive in all your experiences.
29、 If you’re reading this article. It’s safe to assume you don’t need to be sold on the power of the written word. You may already be familiar with findings suggesting even children as young as six months who read books with their parents several times a week show stronger writing and reading skills four years later and score higher on intelligence tests. But latest research shows that when practiced over a lifetime, reading books can support healthy brain functioning in big ways. Simply put: word power increases brain power.
Why does reading books in particular boost your brain power while reading newspapers and magazines doesn’t? The researchers assume that chapter books encourage “deep reading”, which forces your brain to think critically and make connections from one chapter to another and to the outside world. When you make connections.so does your brain, forming new pathways between different regions in your brain. Over time, these neural (神经的)networks can promote quicker thinking and may provide a greater defense against the worst effects of cognitive (认知的)decline.
That’s not to say that magazines, newspapers, and web articles are without merit. Reading anything that fills your mind and exposes you to new words, phrases , and facts seems to carry mental benefits. New research indicates that a large vocabulary may lead to a more flexible mind by fueling what scientists call cognitive reserve. Just as your blood cells will clot (凝结)to cover a cut on your knee, cognitive reserve helps your brain cells find new mental pathways around areas damaged by stroke (脑中风), Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of cognitive decline. This could explain why, after death, many seemingly healthy elders turn out to harbor advanced signs of Alzheimer’s disease in their brains despite showing few signs in life. It’s their cognitive reserve that allows some seniors to compensate for hidden brain damage.
【1】What does the underlined phrase in paragraph I probably mean?
A.Pay for. B.Worry about.
C.Be persuaded to accept. D.Be offered a discount on.
【2】In which aspect does reading a book boost your brain power?
A.Strengthening neural networks.
B.Blocking the cell’s aging process.
C.Promoting new brain cells’ growth.
D.Curing cognitive decline completely.
【3】What’s the function of the cognitive reserve?
A.It can enlarge your vocabulary.
B.It can stop a cut from bleeding.
C.It can prevent mental diseases.
D.It can make up for brain damage.
【4】Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Which Is Better-Books or Magazines
B.Who Need Reading-the Young or the Old
C.Reading Makes a Full Man-It Counts

Expressions about water are almost as common as water itself. But many of the expressions using water have unpleasant meanings.
The expression “to be in hot water” is one of them. It is a very old expression, which can be 【1】 back to 500 years ago. The expression is used to mean being in trouble. One story says it got that meaning from the custom of throwing extremely hot water down on enemies attacking a castle.

All of the cats are expected to recover, it said. But officials believe this is a unique case because Nadia became sick after 【4】 to an asymptomatic zoo employee, Paul Calle, chief veterinarian at the Bronx Zoo, told Reuters.

The Internet E-commerce and globalization are making a new economic age possible. In the future, capitalist markets will largely be replaced by a new kind of economic system based on 【1】 relationships, contractual arrangements and access rights.
Has the quality of our lives at work, at home and in our communities increased in direct proportion to all the new Internet and business-to-business Internet services being introduced into our lives? Surprisingly, virtually everyone has said, “No, quiet 【2】.” They say they are working longer hours, feel more stressed, are more impatient, and are even less civil in their dealings with colleagues and friends-not to mention strangers. As a language arts teacher, I think it my duty to teach my kids how to use our tools of words well. Use your tool right—this is what I always tell them. But I never expected to learn that lesson from them.
I clearly remembered it was my 40th birthday. On that day, my sixth-grade students were seated in a large circle, each holding a different tool in their hand—a hammer, a flashlight, a screwdriver, etc. The students discussed how words are like tools—they have the ability to build or to destroy, and they discovered how the right tool used at the right time for the right job can bring about great results. They freely shared personal stories of how they had experienced someone’s words used as a tool, to wound or to heal.
I watched and listened with a sense of satisfaction—the students were engaged, attentive, and enjoying the lesson. They got it! It was one of those times when I sat back and enjoyed the magic of being a teacher—to have the opportunity to watch young people discover a greater truth about life about each other, and about themselves. There was no better gift than that.
As we neared the end of that school day, one of my students, Laura, had an unexpected outburst of defiance(违抗) in class. Busy scribbling (涂画) in her exercise book, she refused to work with her group. I was aware from reading Laura's file that she had struggled with defiant behavior in previous years, but we had developed a good relationship and she was always a respectful, thoughtful, and positive contributor to our class. Her behavior caught me off guard. “I'm disappointed in you!" With a sharp tone, I asked her to excuse herself and told her I would visit with her in our next-door meeting room after school. She refused to leave and sat silently, staring at me angrily from the back of the room.
