DISCOUNTS

Saver: $2 off any seat booked any time in advance for performances from Monday to Thursday inclusive, and for all matinees(下午场). Savers are available for children up to 16 years old, over 60s and full-time students.

Negative-pressure rooms have been used in hospitals since the 1980s to keep airborne bacteria from spreading.But Nathan Haas says such rooms cost about$12,000. He and his colleagues wanted to develop a cheaper way to create a negative pressure environment for patients.The new devices could lower the need for negative-pressure rooms,which are rare in many parts of the world,according to Haas.

The helmet can be used when staff transport patients and the tent can protect the upper body of a bed-bound patient wearing a mask,allowing staff to perform several procedures.

“They represent a really simple solution to potentially helping reduce virus spread and increase the safety of healthcare workers, as well as patient safety,” says Ben Bassin.

When the researchers tested their devices with a healthy volunteer,they saw 97% to 99%fewer bacteria outside the devices than inside.They also tested the devices' ease of use and comfort with seven COVID-19 patients.The response from patients and staff was good, Bassin says.

But Reuben Strayer notes the tests did not prove that these devices work to protect medical staff in real-life situations. He says he wants to see independent effect, “to see if they perform as they are advertised.”

29、   In 2015,Gardiner and two other friends, founded an online publishing company called JKX Comics(漫画). At the time, the three were pursuing Doctor of Philosophy in different fields at the University of Wisconsin. For the volunteer crew, the comics(are now offered online for free) have also given scientists a friendlier face. “We can show who the scientists are…that they are also just people,” says Gardiner, a cancer biologist at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. “We’re not all geniuses with Einstein-like hair that are antisocial and just have Eureka moments all the time. And using comics is a nice way to tell their story. Their latest, Gilbert’s Glitch Switch, released March 2,sees a biochemist get involved in a video game where he has to test amino acid(氨基酸)combinations to get proteins to communicate effectively.

“There’s a lot of misinformation in our communities,” Montgomery says. “And it scares people away from science. If we could limit some of those misunderstandings when they’re kids or when their parents are reading with them, I think that would be a really good impact.”

On a broiling afternoon when the men were away at work and all the women napped, I moved through majestic depths of silences, silences so immense I could hear the corn 【1】. The creak of a porch swing told of a momentary breeze blowing across my grandmother’s yard. Driving an electric car 【1】 to the protection of environment, or so the marketing departments of their makers would have you believe. Yet a report which analyzes car emissions presents a rather different picture. A battery-powered car recharged with 【2】 generated by coal-fired power stations, it found, is likely to be more harmful. Overall, the study shows that electric cars are cleaner than those traditional vehicles only if the power used to charge then is also clean. That is hardly a surprise, but the 【10】 of the difference is. How green electric cars really are, then, will depend mainly on where they are driven. In France, which obtains more than half of its power from nuclear station, electric cars look like a good bet. In China and some other developing countries, where a large amount of electricity is produced from coal, they may not be so environment- friendly as they are marketed.
